Report on previous ReTIS-06, 14-15
July 2006 The National Conference on Recent Trends in Information Systems
(ReTIS) was held on 14th and 15th July 2006 at the H.L.
Roy Auditorium, Jadavpur University Campus. The conference was jointly
organized by IEEE GOLD Affinity Group, IEEE Calcutta Section, Center for
Microprocessor Application for Training Education & Research, Project on
Storage Retrieval & Understanding of Video for Multimedia, Computer Science
& Engineering Department (TEQIP) – Jadavpur University and Computer
Jagat. The
Conference was aimed at bringing together both students and researchers from
divergent areas such as: High
Performance Computing, Image Processing, Information Retrieval, Information Security,
Intelligent Systems, Mobile Communications and Network, Optical Character
Recognition and Pattern Recognition. A total of 108 papers were received for
consideration for presentations in the conference. After peer review of the
papers, 57 submissions were selected for publications in the proceedings.
These papers were presented in 12 technical sessions, chaired by eminent
personalities from different Universities and Institutes. A total of 41
papers were presented in the conference. Total 60 participants from different
parts of India registered for the conference and a total of 110 participants,
from different parts of India, attended the 2-day conference. Student
presenters of different papers were considered for best paper awards during
the conference. 6 such student papers were selected for awards by a committee
consisting of eminent engineers / scientists. Besides
incorporating a large number of reviewed papers for presentation at the
conference, four eminent speakers were invited to deliver special talks on
their respective fields of research, so that students and upcoming
researchers may be benefited in their future research works. Prof. A. Basu from IIT KGP, Prof. A. Bagchi
from ISI, Prof. S. K. Sanyal from JU and Dr. C. Dutta from IICB delivered
enlightening talks on the state of the art trends in information systems. A
conference proceeding containing all the 57 selected submissions and the 4
invited papers were published during the conference. An industrial talk was
presented by senior professionals from WeP Peripherals Ltd. during the
conference. The inaugural program of ReTIS – 06 was graced
by Prof. D. K. Das, Hon’ble MIC - IT, Govt. of W. Bangal as the Chief Guest
and Prof. M. K. Mitra, Dean FET, JU as the Guest of Honour. Prof. D. K. Basu,
Chairperson, ReTIS delivered welcome address and Prof. S. K. Sanyal,
Chairman, IEEE Calcutta Section gave the Vote of Thanks during the inaugural
session of ReTIS - 06. The program was also attended by many distinguished
guests from different Universities and Institutes from all over the country.
An evening cultural program was also arranged on 14th July. Sri.
A. Guhathakurata, an ex-student of this University and an eminent
Rabindrasangeet singer, with his co-artists presented an hour of
scintillating musical presentation. A banquet dinner was subsequently
arranged in the University guest house. Finally, the organizers of the reTIS-06 would
like to
acknowledge with pleasure the cooperation and financial support that we have
received from different Institutes and Organizations. |
